Hello,

So i am taking 15 years old turtle from my neighbours which lived its whole life in 50x30cm tank, She or he is like 20cm long... NO LIGHTS NO FILTER, JUST TANK AND SIMPLE BASKING AREA.
I already ordered way larger tank, baskong lights, filter and everything...

But she used to live in pretty shallow water, she was full submerged and there was like 2cm above her shell so yeah pretty shallow...
Should i fill her new tank like she was used to and every other day add more water or will she be fine in way deeper water, I dont know if she will be able to swimto the surface, enter basking area or atleast breathe air.

Also i wonder if I should take 5.0 UVB or 10.0, she never had any?

Thanks for your answers. : - )

You will need to take it slow and pay very close attention to her. No deep water unless you are able to be there and monitor her swimming technique. You can also try to put her in a BathTub and see how she is able to swim, or if she can even self regulate depth. You will have to realize that it took 15 years for her to get in this predicament and it will take time to get her to a normal Turtle Life.

Read eared sliders are between zone 3 and 4 in the Ferguson scale and require a UVI of 3-5 within their basking zone. So 10.0 UVB meaning "desert style" 12% tubes is recommended. Arcadia and zoomed are the highest quality.

But it is also about distance. How high could you possibly mount the UVB?

It is 40 to 60 cm. This guide visualizes the difference between the appropriate distance 5.0 versus a 10.0 lamp:
