One of my relatives gave me a Russian tortoise and I'm kind of concerned about her shell? It looks like it's chipping? Also are they supposed to be so dark? I have looked up the guide sheets on the forums for what to feed and so on. But I'm just wondering if there is something wrong or if it is fixable? Thanks!!

Please try to refrain from harsh comments.. like I said I just got her and the first thing I did was post to ask for help.. :(:tort:20151026_215436-1.jpg

Are you talking about the wide yellow margins on the edge towards the back? That's excessive new growth. I don't know why that portion has grown bigger/faster than the rest of the shell, but it has to try to maintain the correct silhouette, so maybe it was having to play catch up.

It's not chips and it's not bad or wrong. Looks fine to me. I don't notice the shell being any darker than it's supposed to be.

Yes that's what I was concerned about.. I wasn't sure if it was just her shell growing or if it had chipped there since it was lighter in color.. ive never seen it before.. thank you for your reply. I've been freaking out since I got her..
