Shell patch coming up

Is it normal for a layer of the shell to shed?
It looks like the top layer it's coming coming off.
I'm not sure why the imagine keeps rotating

There's no way for US to know. . . YOU have to be the detective: there was an injury at some time in the past. . . a hot light burned the carapace the most likely culprit. Looks to me like mainly the new growth was involved. There's not much you can do at this point but make sure conditions have improved. The damage is done and can't be fixed (in my opinion).
