Shell Question

F577B942-25AB-4CF5-BC23-458210BCEA2E.jpeg Just got my first Russian Tortoise three months ago. While soaking and bathing him, I noticed his shell raised up some, almost like it was shedding. I don’t recall this being there when I got him during his vet check.

It is old shell that will eventually fall off. Do not pick at it, just let it fall off on its on. :):tort:

This is beginning to happen to mine, just keep bathing her and it'll be fine. I thought it might be from a too dry environment, not sure though.

Most wild caught Russians come with dents and bumps, a bit like a used car. As said above, it's old damage that will eventually flake off. There be a white bone scar underneath that won't go away, don't worry, it doesn't hurt the tortoise.

It would be difficult to match the dryness of where our Russians come from; it's dry dry dry all year long! Lack of moisture is not typically an issue for adults in this species.
