No, its a cleanup with a toothbrush dipped in citric acid and water solution.

It sounds like I don’t have to use the coconut oil! Tom do you use it?
Sometimes in some situations, yes. My climate is very dry here, and when I first move juveniles outside full time, the growth seams can get very dried out. The coconut oil helps to ease this transition. I don't use it on indoor babies, and I don't use it on large fully grown adults.

I think is is useful and beneficial for young growing tortoises, but its not harmful when used on any tortoises in any situation. During the times when I use it, I find weekly application to be enough.
