We've had 2 box turtles for several years now and recently one has had to fleshy looking ball things protruding from it's bottom. At first it was light colored and softer but now, about 2-3 days later it's gotten darker in color and firm. My wife wants to take her to a Vet, but I wanted to check here first to see if this is common. I've not been able to find anything online that matches what I'm seeing. Please advise.

It could be a prolapse. Take a picture and most likely a vet appointment is needed.

I would take it to the vet tonight if possible if not definitely tomorrow. The fact that whatever it is it's getting darker is not a good sign.

It does sound like it could be a prolapse - get him to a vet ASAP.

It may be already too late to have a pleasant outcome. When your turtle prolapses, you've got to keep it moist. Since it has turned dark and dried out, it has started to die, and that part, whether it's the penis or intestine or whatever it will have to be amputated.
