Hey,

I have a russian tortoise and i notice that i dont really give him a varied diet, could someone write a short and quick list of food i can buy at a local store (a co op for example).
Including fruits would be nice too.

Thank you,

Chelsea + Buddy the tortoise

Russians can't digest the sugars in fruit - it causes digestive and kidney problems - so fruit, tomato, bell pepper and carrot should only be fed very sparingly and very occasionally.

Look up plants you can buy and plants that grow around you on The Tortoise Table Plant Database for suitability to feed
http://thetortoisetable.org.uk/site/plant_database_14.asp

However for the health of your tort you shouldn't be only be feeding store bought greens. Your tort needs things like this - you can look them up on The Tortoise Table if you don't know what they look like.

Mulberry leaves
Grape vine leaves
Hibiscus leaves
African hibiscus leaves
Blue hibiscus leaves
Rose of Sharon leaves
Rose leaves
Geraniums
Gazanias
Lavatera
Pansies
Petunias
Hostas
Honeysuckle
Cape honeysuckle
Leaves and blooms from any squash plant, like pumpkin, cucumber, summer squash, etc...
Young spineless opuntia cactus pads

Weeds:
There are soooooooo many...
Dandelion
Mallow
Filaree
Smooth Sow thistle
Prickly Sow thistle
Milk thistle
Goat head weed
Cats ear
Nettles
Trefoil
Wild onion
Wild mustard
Wild Garlic
Clovers
Broadleaf plantain
Narrow leaf plantain
Chick weed
Hawksbit
