Hi, guys. Just wondering if it's common for torts to shed their skins? Tks!

Yes. Shedding is normal provided that the shedding isn't because of dehydration or too much heat. A little shedding is as normal as it is for humans to shed their skin. However, humans shedding is not noticeable. If it is, it's the result of too dry skin, burns, or some other skin condition.

Thank you! Could it be also the result of weight gain? I think my torts were on the underweight side. I should really have weighed them, but it never crossed my mind at the time.

They were also kept on dry, chunky bark and there was no water dish in their enclosure when I went to see them. They're now on a variety of different substrates, but the bottom is top soil-peat moss mix, 60:40. Humidity varies between 30 and 50. They also only got soaked 1-2x/week before; now, almost daily. Temp: Max 80 (daytime) min 68 (night time).

Do you have sulcatas? If so, those temps are way too cool for them. Night temps shouldn't be less than 80 degrees. Also, for sulcatas, humidity needs to be at 80%.

Rapid weight gains shouldn't cause the skin to peel a lot, but there might be some slight shedding.

Never mind about the temps. Just found out you don't have sulcatas.:p

It looks like they're getting new, healthy skin. The crusty brown is falling off. No bleeding or redness.

Any thoughts? Tks!!
