I haven't posted in a while. But I wanted to share our progress. Torue is 15 months old and we have struggled to get her on a steady growing path. With hard work she is at 130g. Still really small for her age but she is gaining at a much steadier rate.

There is nothing wrong with slow and steady. They all grow at different rates. My sulcata was not much heavier than yours at that age. After correcting some husbandry issues and ridding him of pinworms he began to gain at a much faster rate. Almost 3 years and several growth spurts later he is pushing 35 lbs.

Hi marquegirl,

130 grams at 15 months old you say? That is slow ;)

I am always curious about different growth rates. Theories about what causes them, etc.
May I ask, how are you raising your little sully? Just wonder if I will notice any trends with other slow growers. :)

I have her in a moist substrate with humidity levels at 95 and temps at 80 in the cool areas and 100 in the light where she can bask. She is fed everyday a mix of sully grasses weeds and leaves.

Ever offer anything with some plant protein in it? Legumes? Alfalfa? Clover? Beans?

How about Mazuri?

Don't be afraid of a little protein once in a while. It won't hurt your tortoise in moderation, especially in good growing conditions like yours.

As long as the temps are good and warm, 95% humidity is fine. If the temps are low and cool, it is bad. Warm and moist is what I like.
