Franklin soaks himself in his water plate often, would you still recommend forced soaks (he REALLY hates those) or would he be a good enough judge to regulate it himself?

If you know for sure that he is doing it as often as is recommended and is staying in it for at least 20 mins. Then it's probably enough. However, you have to know the answers not just guess or assume.

I know for a fact that he spends at least 20-30 minutes of a day in there, not all at once, but he probably stays at least 7 minutes at a time in (those are just my time estimates I don't whip out a stopwatch) he also doesn't live in his water dish (I know that's a bad sign too), I think I'll go with soaking him weekly but making it a short soak just so I know for sure he had at least enough, I want to make sure my lifelong companion is lifelong

Franklin is a few months mine, but being from a pet store age can only be a guess. Franklin is a Russian and I'd say his shell is a little bigger than 5 inches.

Franklin is probably several years old from his size. As for soaking, do make sure the water is warm enough and change it as it cools.

Joe won't stay put unless the water is warm. It also helps to soak first thing before your tort has warmed up.

I'd soak him twice a week. I'd also leave a water bowl in his enclosure so he can drink as he pleases.
