Well in some cases like , rough sands, small pebbbles yes. Why I have one side a diff substrate as you see. It is a natural cypress bark/chip along with some moss. Most shapes of the pieces are bigger then she could " mouth". Along knowing all is organic and would eventually break down. Good point indeed.... I do with all my torts have " lil" trays .. but honest they usally drag it off the tray and within 5 mins its all over the place.
One thing to remember....we all love our torts so much and sometimes there is TOO much info, opinions, and advice in here! I sometimes feel a vibe from new folks to the hobby or old ones alike , who get more nit picky of "dont do this" and "must do this" ..can I say " anal" ?
My point is... can you imagine a tortoise in the wild being so darn selective as to what , where , when and who they eat. Let alone what kind of substrate its on? I have many torts , and I think I take dam good care of them , proof is in the pics
Why I dont give advice too often .... just have fun sharing pics/stories of my shelled buddies~
