spagnum moss

I tried to put some spagnum moss inside the hiding box for meter , but he seems to take a step back from the hiding box... is there's a problem with the spagnum moss?

From my experience, my tortoise prefers it drier, not wet through

I soak the moss for a day because I received it completely dry. After that I dry it with my hand , the moss are not completely dry but that the best I could do

maybe leave it under the basking lamp for a bit to dry it a bit more and see if he prefers it then?
