if space is an issue you can always go double decker like bunk beds. that way it won't take any more floor space.

It looks like your tortoise could be an Ibera Greek, Testudo (graeca) ibera. But it would be better to tell with a plastral photo and without the flash if possible. They're a great, very environmentally adaptable and cold hardy species if it is.
