Gotta love spring. I was taking a break doing some enclosure and pen building. So I went down to the 40' wide limestone creek on a portion of the property found this guy upside down. I kept him in a tub until one of the neighbors (few miles down) called me back to see if it was ok to release this guy in his spring fed pond. Cool guy. Big male and he showed me all right. Was very snappy, no pun intended lol. He was 16" shell length. about 35 pounds.

Impressive snapper and timing! Oh, and I'm very envious of the fact that #1 you have a creek in your yard and #2 there's turtles in it! ;-)

But that's NOT a snapper. I'd have to see more of the neck skin, but it looks to me like another old melanistic RES male.

Oh, wait a minute...that's two separate turtles, right? 35lbs probably IS a snapper, I can't see the picture, but the brighter picture is the one I was thinking was a RES, and he's nowhere near 35lbs. My mistake.

Ha. yeah the second one is a Rio Grande Cooter(well at least gerards and the turtle room ID it as that). Just showing what sort of turtles I deal with on the property. Lots of soft shells too. Those guys are awesome for sure.
