Its already been said, but I'm here to reinforce it. Your substrate was too dry and it was pulling all the moisture out of the air (like a dry sponge). You have to add water to it almost every morning.

my real name is heather. ill start watering the substrate every morning, at ground level the humidity is in the high 60's, but from my understanding it still needs to be higher?

How warm is the ground? You may want to try watering it with warm water- if it can hold the temp, it will generate lots of humidity.

Hey Heather,
Yes technically 60 is too low still, but its MUCH better than 30 which is what most homes are at this time of year, so take heart, you're getting there.

I'm having trouble keeping mine over 75 these days.
