I'm very new to tortoises, but have been doing tons of research. Being from Wis. can anybody tell me if there are any breeders or shows in the area. I've looked online at buying a tort. but I usually like to see what Im paying for and don't want to go the mega pet store route (not many choices). I've looked into adopting from craigslist but most are looking to get full price, if that's the case I want the species of my choice. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you

I used to live in Madison, and there is a pretty good store in Monona (south of Madison) called Reptile Rapture. They sell hatchling leos, russians, greeks, and probably more I don't remember, but I don't know what breeders they get them from. There is also the Wisconsin Reptile Expo (www.wireptileshows.com), but that was mostly geckos and snakes the last time I was there. The next show is Sept. 23.
You could always check petfinder.com if you want to adopt. That's where I found my tort. I had to drive to Chicago to get her, but it was worth it.

There is a reptile show coming up in Tinley park Illinois in October. Tortoise forum member Tyler Stewart of www.TortoiseSupply.com will be there. Not sure what your looking for and if he will have it, but you could send him a pm or email and ask. If you have a chance to buy from him, you know you will be getting a good one and he will stand behind it.
