Strange Poop

Some tiny orange flakes were in my tortoises poop today. I was wondering if this is normal, or if not, what could it be?

He does go in the house. I haven't witnessed him eat anything but he could have. I unfortunately don't have any pics but if it happens again I'll take a pic. I do think I've seen him eat some substrate.

Your tortoise should not be allowed to roam free in your home.

Out of his enclosure
- he is away from the heat, humidity and UVB that he needs to be healthy.
- the risk of escape or being stepped on (we had one on TFO a few weeks ago ) are high. Russians are outstanding escape artists and you only have to be distracted for a moment.
- There is also a high risk of him ingesting something he shouldn't - they are attracted to colorful items, but don't think about whether or not it's food before trying it. They may also ingest hair or dust bunnies that can cause intestinal blockages.

Your Russian is 5 inches and had an enclosure that was too small from what I recall. Get him something that's a minimum of 4'x8' with proper substrate and plants and leave him in that where he will be much happier and healthier.
