Substrate for outdoor tort house?

What the best substrate to use in an outdoor house please? For a salcuta. I have a heat pad on the floor which can’t be covered but what can I put around/next to it to cover the rest of the floor?

Dirt. Its free. Its everywhere. It absorbs and its easy to clean up. Scrape it out with a flat head shovel as needed and replace it. Soaking the tortoise more often will result in less cleaning of the night box.

Don't put the dirt directly on the mat. If the mat gets a little dirt or poop tracked on to it, it won't hurt anything, but don't bury the Kane mat.
