Hi guys, I have a problem with the susbtrate. I use cypress mulch I keep it damp to create humidity however it gets moldy very quickly. I spot clean it daily. How often should I change the substrate? Are there any tricks to keep the substrate from creating mold?

I keep the humidity at 85-90.

Cypress doesn't mold. Stuff that is on or in your cypress mulch is molding. In the past when I've tried cypress it was very dirty and smelly. I had to rinse it many times and even then it still smelled dirty and swampy. I prefer other substrates. "Save the Cypress trees". Orchid bark is my first choice for sulcatas and leopard.

Thank you Tom. I noticed that too cypress mulch does have a swampy smell once wet.

Do you know where I can buy orchid bark in bulk?

I get it at Lowe's or any garden center. Its usually about $5-6 for a 2.0 cubic foot bag. Read the ingredients and make sure to get the fine grade stuff. Its called "fir bark".

At Lowe's they call it "Pathway Bark". That is one brand anyway. They have other types and brands in other parts of the country.
