Just to show you how many sulcatas end up in the rescues...there used to be a wonderful sulcata rescue in Southern Calif. called American Tortoise rescue. They no longer take in Sulcatas because they have too many for the land that they own. Here's a short blurb from their web site:

" American Tortoise Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1990 to provide for the protection of all species of tortoise and turtle. We offer permanent sanctuary to abandoned and lost tortoises though we no longer do adoptions. Special needs turtles and tortoises that cannot be placed stay in the care of American Tortoise Rescue for the remainder of their lives."

The California Turtle & Tortoise Club has many chapters in Southern Calif and each chapter has adoptions. I'm sure you can find a Sulcata at one of their chapters. Here is the web site that lists the chapters:

Hi all, I went to a tag sale the other day and met this woman who was visiting the owner of the home. They had small amounts of animal stuff and wouldn't ya know it, I got to talking critters with the friend. The subject came up torts and this woman visiting has 2 sulcatas that are 25 yrs old. Re arranged their entire deck, back yard etc. so these guys could grow up happy. I mentioned they are a pretty disposable pet(no offense met by that , just folks don't know what they are getting into and try to find them homes) and here and there see many up for adoption. She has had these since hatchlings and said she would welcome another into her home and yard. I said I would pass an email or number to her and they could work it out. Before I pass along a Craigs'list person, does anyone here know of someone somewhere nearer to Mass that is giving one up? I don't know how to not get involved alittle, just because talking to her she was committed!!
Just a thought.appears she does not go online at all, and was totally unaware that so many need new homes.(probably out buying food for here torts 23 hrs a day!!!)
