Hey everyone I recently moved my tortoise to an outside enclosure which he has loved and we bought a big bag of organic soil which has been a complete stress. Besides being full of bugs after the major rains we had there are so many toadstools, I can’t figure out what type because I know nothing about them and I don’t think my tortoise ate them because I came back from a couple days away and their was several in there that were near the end of their life and totally intact. He is well fed so he has no reason to eat them but he could have eaten in on accident while eating his food or browsing sprouts that we planted in the enclosed.
Today there was a bunch of fire ants in there. I took him out because I don’t want him to be attacked and we moved the enclosure (it’s on wheels) away from where the ants were getting in but how the heck do I get rid of the mushrooms? I’m so stressed out.
I read food grade sulfur and I can order some on Amazon. I’m just wondering if that the best option I just don’t know what to do.
Thank you.
Also he is a Hermanns tortoise, he will be 3 years old in Nov.

Soil should never be used for tortoise substrate. The reasons you are seeing are just one part of the problem.

My outside enclosures just use the native dirt that was already there. If yours need substrate, get some fine grade orchid bark. Put your plants in pots so the tortoise doesn't have access to the soil.

Soil should not be used even the organic. The reasons, for what you are getting and finding. It has too much crap in it that shouldn't be with our tortoises.
Use the ground that is natural to the enclosure if outside or orchid bark/fir bark or coconut coir.
