The Seattle area is finally getting a few nice days here and there. Don't have the outside pen ready yet, but still had them out exploring the yard. Let them sit in a big tub on the deck for a while and they enjoyed some rather large dandilions :)

This is one single dandilion plant. I have hundreds of these along our creek in the backyard and more than I like growing in my flower beds. I used to hate them, but now I like them to grow nice and big as I have so many animals who appreciate them.

Full size russian and dandilion. Tort heaven? It's like 'where's waldo', the tort version...

I know what you mean about how you used to hate the weeds. I spent the last 11 years killing every weed in or near my yard. This spring I actually went out searching for dandelions and clover to plant in my enclosure.

Wow I wish I had a safe area to pick them from in the PNW (I'm also in the Seattle area)! So far I've just seen them right on the side of the road which I don't like due to the exhaust and stuff. I don't have a yard. Maybe if I went into a nature area and went off the beaten track a bit? I bet they wouldn't mind if I picked weeds. The health food stores sure sell the greens for a lot of money and not even the blooms!

I live in that area too. I'm still waiting on the weather. I'm planning an outside pen for Fern. Fern loves dandelions. Fern is my female Russian tortoise. When I first got her she only ate dandelions and now her favorite is cactus.:D
