Hello. I just got a Greek Tortoise a week ago, and I am new to it.

I have read about people feeding "supermarket" fruits and vegetables to their pets, and people say that is bad.

I am currently feeding my tort with romaine lettuce and a little bit of kale that I purchased at the grocery store. I supplement with Rep-Cal D3, cuttlebone, and the occasional scoop of rep-cal Tortoise food.

Am I on the right track? What are these "Bad" supermarket veggies?

Thank you.

No more romaine...its only one step up from head lettuce.

What you want is a bag of "spring mix" or "mixed baby greens"

The lettuces are varied, and small enough that there is no chopping involved.
I also have a greek and the veggies I have tried with him, and gotten good responses to are carrot (shredded) baby zucchini, and bell pepper.

I have another thread about acceptable foods for Greeks...I got alot of stuff
listed over there that was reccomended to me by other members.
Greek Diet There's the link.

take a look...i think it would help you.

Thank you for the tips!

Hello

You can also feed him escarol & Chicory. Where I live, the winters are really cold so during the winter I buy the food at the store, I try to buy organics greens but it is not available for all kind of greens. The key is the diversification :)
