I always thought our past taught us sooooo much, that we could NEVER see a depression here in the USA again, now I see how naive I was, and don't feel that way anymore.
I also always thought that there would never be another epidemic such as SARS or the swine flu. I always felt we are soooo much better prepared and have learned sooo much from the past. Have we learned and grown, or again, am I/we just naive? Can places like China and Mexico handle an epidemic? Can the US?
For the sake of everyone, lets over react and blame the media for blowing it out of proportion.......rather than under react and see people die.

I think people do panic partly from our media and partly because they're not told much information on what they're panicking about. There is no doubt that our media tries to scare people for ratings and ratings are money. I think they need to be more responsible for what they do and people need to question things a little more. So far we have not even heard what part of Mexico this originated in. So we really don't know what the conditions were there to start with. I do believe the United States is much more capable of handling an outbreak than Mexico is and that hopefully will be proven soon.

Absolutely, the media and the government has blown this out of proportion and scare the public. The DRUG COMPANIES love it and plan to make billion out of this one. If we do our homework, and know for a fact that there isn't anything that could stop a flu virus, the only thing can do that is a good immune system. And how does one get a good immune system? By having a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, a good hygene, lot of vitamin D (exposure to the sun light), exercise.... and stay away from most of the DRUGS.

In the news, they say Montreal hopsitals are ready. There is no case confirmed in the province of Quebec yet (my province) but they say they will have some for sure. Everyone is talking about it. Where I work, there is an adress email we can send an E-mail if we have questions about the swine flu and specialist will answer us. My friend was supposed to go to mexcio in 2 weeks, but she will go to Cuba instead.

I liked when I saw you post "exposure to sunlight" the media and doctors have also scared people so bad about this one too. They tell you to put on sunscreen, but again people do not question the chemicals that are in them which are probably more harmful then your natural sun. We all know that we should not lay out and burn our skin, but I have a hard time believing that you can't have and should have a little bit of sun each day. Where's the research on the harmful effects of the chemicals in the sunscreen? So far little by little it's starting to come out.

I think it is a huge overreaction. People die from the everyday flu. Then again you never know. It does seem sometimes that the world is coming to an end.
