Hi all,

I have a couple questions:

1. Do you see any downsides from switching from a Coconut Coir/ Cypress Mulch Mix (85/15) to strictly Orchid Bark?

2. If not, where’s the best place to get it in bulk? Home Depot, Menards, or Lowes would be ideal.

Thanks!

Tom buys it at Lowes or Home depot. The only thing is, what he buys is a walk on type bark, not a product packaged for orchids. Yes, it's fir bark, and he seems to have good luck with it. You can buy it in large bags at those stores. But I really like a product packed for orchids because then I'm sure it's pure fir bark. Since Orchard Supply Hardware closed (where I used to buy it), I now have to have a nursery order it for me. It's quite a bit more expensive for the same bag.

Switching substrate shouldn't cause your tortoise any problems.
