Tejas on his back...

I knew it was bound to happen and after reading so many threads with questions about finding torts upside down I knew that we should round the inside edges of Tejas's temp outside enclosure, but we figured he would be fine.
Well me wife send me a message with a photo saying this is the 5th time in less that an hour that she found Tejas like this.

So tomorrow we will be making the adjustment to the corners tomorrow so this can be eliminated

Poor Guy, how do you plan on rounding the edges on his pen?
I have one similar to yours and want to possibly make it
as safe as possible?

We are going to try cutting a plastic planting pot up and use that since it will guarantee us the corner will be rounded and if that doesn’t work I'm not sure. But I am sure if I look hard enough someone had a good suggestion in an older thread, so I will be searching that tonight.

Looks just like my little tippy! He seems to find a way to get upside down no matter what I do.

My wife always worries so if she has him out side, she sets the timer to go off every 15 minutes so she can check on him..They do find a way to flip themselves over no matter what...

What do you do when you find him on his back? I never, well almost never, assist a tortoise to right themselves. It does not matter if they are young or old. I take note of the time and monitor them, and so far they have always righted themselves. I do this as much for me as I do for the tortoise, I would never know their abilities if I always assisted their getting back on their feet again. Since I can't monitor them 24/7, I need the piece of mind knowing they will be OK. I do notice tortoises on their back more after being introduced to a new environment. After the torts go out for the summer, or in for the winter, I find them on their back a bit for the first week or so. After the first week, males with failed mating attempts seem to be the only flip occurrences.

I only had this happen with my 5 year old once, not saying it hasnt happened in the past and I just didnt know it because he righted himself and that was just recently and I saw where he tried to flip himself over but he just couldn't do it. This is new with Tejas, if it happens when I m there I will watch and see if he can right himself, but my wife gets worried about that and she will flip him over and I will not tell her to stop.

they seem to flip no matter what you do. like above i just watch them and let them try and flip them selfs over, its something they gotta learn. I found that my torts. wont be able to flip them selfs over, but over time they learn to do it. I always just watch them on there back, and once they looked like they are about done cant do it. or tired i'll flip them back. but over time they learn. IMO

I have an idea I use why not bury some plastic containers (possibly plant containers) in the ground and that way the corners are not accessible and he can get more hides for him to enjoy.

Mine tend to flip themself over on some days more often than others... especially my greeks. They just turn themself over shortly after :x
If you want to make the corner rounder... if you have access to some power tools say a Miter saw I believe is the name for it, you can just take a flat piece of wood and cut an angle cut on both sides on the edge and just glue it to the corner that way it's flat and semi rounded.

The picture makes it look like he is just laying there calmly waiting for somebody to come flip him back. I agree, I think unless they are in danger, wearing out, or acting stressed it's best to let them learn how to reflip themselves. I do understand your wife, not being able to be so "mean" and instead immediately turning him back.

He fell on his back again today and we just watched him and after about 20 seconds of leg shacking, he flipped his self back over so my wife will not assist him anymore unless he is really struggling...
