What is you opinion on Kane heaters vs. Zoo Med ReptiTherm habitat heater?
Has anyone had either burn their tortoise?
Where would it best be to mount the heating mat?

Mount it on the floor. This is what the mfg. recommends. I've talked to him personally several times. Heat rises and the whole point of sing one is to keep a tortoise warm when the floor is cold.

ZooMed basically copied Craig Kane's design, but the Kane mats have an externally adjustable thermostat AND an embedded fail safe thermostat for safety.
