I’ve had this box turtle for about 13 years. She was given to me by our state fish and game when she was found wandering. I live in southern Utah, and there are no native box turtles here, so they were looking for a home for herIMG_0298.jpeg. Upon receipt her shell was the typical dull brown of a three-toed box turtle, with very little evidence of any kind of coloration or pattern. She has three toes on her hind limbs. She lives and hibernates in an outdoor enclosure in which strawberries grow, and slugs, grasshoppers, etc. are plentiful. Over the years, her shell coloration has been growing more distinctive and it’s now quite vivid. I’ve assumed this is a three-toed box turtle, but now I’m starting to wonder. I’d love to hear any opinions. Thank you!

I agree with DoubleD1996, it does appear to be a (now) nicely colored Three-toed Box Turtle.
