It is finally warm enough for my almost year old Hermann's tortoise to be able to spend some time outside. I have a section of the yard that I cleared of weeds that I was unsure about, but apparently I missed some small pebbles. (The permanent outdoor enclosure is in the works.) I picked up Little A'Tuin & tried to get a grip on the little stone, but he was determined to hold onto it, and he swallowed it. Should I take him to the vet? Should I wait to see if it will "pass"? It looked like it was big enough to be painful if he has to pass it. Any advice would be appreciated.

General rule of thumb, if they can swallow it they can pass it, just keep him hydrated.

I found a pebble in my Leo's soak water recently. Apparently whomever passed it had no troubles doing so, though I was a little shocked I find a rock in their soak water.

Thank you both. I found out a few minutes after I posted that there is only one herp vet in my area and it is after business hours, so I would have to wait until Monday to talk to a vet. I am so glad to be a part of this forum!

My tortoise swallowed a rock as well that was half the size of her head. I had no idea until I found it in her soak water..Changed my substrate immediately
