Tortoise beak trimming

I took my tortoise to a vet to get his beak trimmed they called me about 3 hours later telling me to come pick him up as they were unable to trim his beak because he kept popping his head back in his shell. When I brought him home I noticed what looks like blood around the back of his head and neck? I'm not 100% sure if it is and I do tend to worry a lot. What does everyone think?

He's been fine, moving around and eating as usual and there's no more blood now. I called the vet to see what had happened and they said they weren't aware that he was bleeding
