I had a very hard time finding a cave that our tortoise would fit in. We cut wood every year for our stove so we took a piece cut off the bottom and then cut the inside and it works PERFECT! In fact, once we put him in his new area he doubled in size and needs a bigger one. Anyone think this could be harmful for our torty or anything?

To my eyes, it is nicely made but too small.

I find that my torts self-select the deeper hides over the smaller hides every time- they instinctively want to get deep and wedged in to protect themselves from predators. In a place like yours, I would lay some flat slabs of wood across one whole short side, propped up to just under his height on one end, and just over his height on the other so he can snug himself in it. I would also make it a few inches deeper than he is long, and if possible, cover up some of the open side.
