Just wanted to share some pics of my collection of tortoises. They are in their temp. homes. I didn't finish building my out/in door enclosure just yet.

I have a few question about UVB. Should I use the tube one or zoomed spiral tube?

Also do RFT and Burmese black mountain need UVB?

Thanks!

That is a really big set up you have them in. You need to separate species though. Redfoots do need UV. I am not sure about the mountians but I would think that they need it as well (not sure why they wouldnt). I use have used the coiled and the long bulbs, but I prefer the long ones because they seem to last longer and they put out the UV over a wider area.

You have some great looking torts!

Do NOT use the coil bulbs. They have been known to damage the eyes of tortoises.

That's a great redfoot enclosure, but you really do need to separate species. Now that they've been together, I highly recommend getting a fecal check done on all of them BEFORE you have any problems.

All torts need UV, but the forest types sometimes avoid hot bright lights.

Thanks for the inputs and compliments!

Yeah I have heard that the swivel UVB tube can harm chameleons' eye but wasn't sure for tortoises.

For feces check I called around the San francsico area and no luck on any vet who wants to do reptiles. I might invest on a microscope on ebay.

I'm trying to built a second floor for that enclosure because the height is really tall!

Well about the needs of UVB for redfoot, I read on redfoottortoise.com that since they are always in the shades area they don't need UVB? Again, I'm gettig mixed answers from a lot of ppl/websites. Anyhow i decided to use UVB for them until they get the outdoor enclosures. A 5.0 UVB will be ok?
Greeks and Russian tortoises 10.0 UVB. Just double checking.

Thanks again! :)

I found these Vets on the TFO list...a couple of these are a little bit of a drive but if they still see exotics it's worth it. If you call them and they don't see reptiles anymore would you please tell a moderator so they can remove them from the list?
