My Greek Caesar always paced his enclosure , up & down , up & down, like he is on patrol . He is still a little sluggish after the cold weather ,so he hasn't done that during the winter months , he never totally hibernated either , but showed up every day for food. He is still interested in his mate Reeva & has no interest in other females. They are all waking up now , the weather sure gets them moving .:D:D:D

Most of the time its very hard to notice tortoise aggression, it seems just like you originally said, it seems like they just have different personalities. Its good you got here in time, sometimes bullying leads to sickness from the stress, and sometimes like you saw with the biting especially if they go for the eyes.
if you still want both of them you can still make it work. Depending on the room you have inside you can build a 2 story enclosure with one for each tort. Outdoor is easy of you secure it well enough and have it covered, I wouldn't worry much about squirrels, rats and raccoons are more in the cat level of danger to a tort. Also depending on where you live a lock would also be a good idea, too many times you hear of someone just walking into the yard and scooping up a tort. Even in the middle of nowhere MA I plan to keep a lock on my outdoor enclosure for me to feel better about myself.

Also the one that still banging around could be doing so because he still knows there's another male somewhere

Wow, I really like the idea about the 2 story enclosure. I didn't think about that. It may be the only way I can keep both. Uggghh so mad at that salesperson. I think when they give horribly wrong advice they should pay a fee!!

No raccoons in the city really but the squirrels, mice and rats (ewwww) do worry me. If someone were to come in my backyard I would be worried about more than just the torts! Its completely private with no public access thankfully.

Regarding the winter, they didn't hibernate at all. They came out every day for food and then burried themselves by evening until the next day.

We know somebody who builds sets for the theatre. Going to have them make a double decker wooden enclosure. Looking in here and online for design ideas. I guess I can't really bring myself to get rid of one of them. Feeling better about this now.
