Tortoise in the wild

My 2nd Gopher Tort seen this spring in South Florida walking along a road.
This one was about 5 lbs I'd guess , though I didn't pick him up

I love seeing different torts in the wild. Maybe we could continue this thread with other ones people have come across of all kinds. If I can find his burrow I'll take some photos of that too. Seems the gopher torts are active right now

I still haven't seen one this year.
The two I saw last year both had paint on them.

Gophers are the coolest. Saw a lot growing up here in central Florida. May have started my love for the tortoise.

That's the third one I've seen in a 4 block area. Only 2 houses / block. Lots of woods. One day I need to stop and look for the burrows to photo

Found another gopher tort along road today. Not far from last one but this one was huge for a gopher.
Notice how smooth his shell is. Looked to be 13-15" long.
