Hey everyone, so I am expecting a second clutch within the next few weeks as my female has gained tons of weight and I'm pretty sure I feel either one or more eggs when checking by touching the inner back thigh area. There are supposed to be some rainy days in the next few weeks, and I'm a bit worried she'll either lay while it's raining or the eggs will get wet or she'll lay before it rains. I can just be very attentive and get the egg/s right after she lays, even if raining, but I was wondering.

Have any of your tortoises laid while it was raining? Should I put some tupperware covers over parts of the enclosure so she has a dry area to lay?

I literally just experienced this tonight as my lever Tortoise started to lay her nest around 1 to 2 PM and it started raining around 6 PM right before she started to drop her eggs. Water started entering the cavity so I went out and intervened and pulled the eggs as she was dropping them because they were going into water. This was her third clutch her first one was 10 eggs. Her second one was 10 eggs. This clutch was only five eggs so my concern or question is I think I may have spooked her during me grabbing the eggs because it was kind of tight in there and my hand did bumper a few times then she just started to fill up the hole or are they just that smart and she stopped laying her eggs and filled up the hole to possibly lay them another day can anyone answer that this is my first time of hatching tortoise eggs, definitely first time with the rain experience and yes, I did put a piece of wood over her while it was raining to try to stop it, but it wouldn’t stop
