If I were you I would ask for a second opinion from a specialist herp vet who knows what he's talking about before any more injections by your first vet.

I've been told to put a drop of baytril in each nostril everyday for 10 days PLUS he's going back for another injection on saturday, should i just carry on with it or not..?

this is not the 'normal' way to give Baytril. You can either dose the tortoise orally, squirt it up his nose or inject it, however, the timing is one dose every day for 5 days, or one dose every other day for 10 days.

I would ask the vet if he would switch to ceftazimine or fortaz.

That is a tough call. I would find a vet that knows more personally, but personally, I would not have started a course of Baytril in the first place.

WHY did your tortoise get sick? All the medicine in the world will not fix the problem if you don't discover and correct the CAUSE of the sickness.

Another question I forgot to ask, would he be allowed outside? Yanoe, in a local parky type thing.
This is a dangerous practice for many reasons that I would not recommend. It has nothing to do with the medicine.

Baytril is an excellent antimicrobial for tortoises. The current recommendation is to be given orally as opposed to injections.
Fortaz would be a good alternative. We have also had some success with Danofloxacin. Do not ask for dosages!

I gave him a drop in each nostril today, and he closed his eyes as if it hurt him.
Is this normal?

Intranasal lavage is hard to do. They don't like it. Dilution of baytril to saline is 1:9

You put the Baytril in an eye dropper or a syringe without a needle then you add 9 parts sterile saline solution. Line what deadheadvet told you, one part Baytril to 9 parts saline. Then you squirt the solution up each nostril. You don't "put a drop in each nostril" like you were told by your vet. So, if you are using " a drop " of Baytril, you would then add 9 drops of sterile saline solution.

Thank you for chiming in in this matter. You are the most qualified person here to address this issue.

Can you tell us why Baytril has such a bad reputation among tortoise keepers? I've heard all sorts of horror stories about skin sloughing, IM tissue burning due to pH, deaths in smaller tortoises, etc...

Please educate us.

If injecting Baytril, you can put the recommended dose in the syringe then add saline solution. It doesn't sting as bad that way. But I prefer the nasal or oral method.

Deceased appetite happens some time, Depending on the volume injected is where the problem of muscular trauma arises. It was pharmacokinetically worked out to go oral instead of injections with larger tortoises. granted, the tortoise(s) have to be eating in order to go with a compounded flavored version of Baytril. Much easier to top dress Mazuri or strawberries than poking the same front arms every other day for duration of treatment. When we see low appetites from Enrofloxacin, we would likely switch to Ceftazadine injection which is also every other day.

Replying to Yvonne's comment, you can't just add saline to Baytril and than give it. You are diluting the amount calculated and increasing the volume and rendering the injection less effective. Assuming the calculations are correct, that is how much you give. That being said, I would not use baytril via injection. Oral only.

Oh, he took it straight from the bottle and just told me to use it.

Didn't tell me ANYTHING about the drug and when he will start to improve..But he's definitely perked up a bit and is now the same cheeky bugger.

Well, that's good news anyway.
But take it easy and don't forget to check on your temperatures and humidity and general set up to try to ensure it doesn't happen again.
Glad Victor's happier.
