Tortoise shell good?

I’m wondering if this is normal? It’s been happening over time and I was thinking it’s just his shell changing colour as he ages but now I’m not too sure. The area and texture is smooth like the rest of the under shell and he’s is acting like his normal self. He uses coco coir for subtract and free roams very little but I keep a clean carpet. Anyone experience this with their little one as the age or at all. Could it be shell rot? It’s not soft or swishy literally seems like part of the shell

No roaming of your floors! As much as you think you watch him, it's clean, so has everyone else that has done the same and then had to admit their tortoise is now sick or dead.
The shell concerns look like either rubbing while walking or normal color change. Nothing to worry about as long as he is lifting himself when he walks.

Thank you for the reply. I have been on and off with the roaming but hearing this has made me make up my mind and no more free roaming.

I don’t suppose you’d mind me asking how he’s kept? I couldn’t see too much on your other threads and it’s always good to hear with different members

Do you know how old he is roughly?
What size enclosure does he have?
Is he indoors or outdoors?
If indoors..
What are your temperatures like? Ie basking temp(directly under the bulb), overall day temps, night temps?
What kind of basking bulb are you using specifically? Packaging photos are good if you have any
What’s your indoor uv type?
How’s humidity reading?
What kind of substrate?
