What kind of wood should I use to build a tortoise table for my Hermann's tortoise. It will be an indoor table.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

You can use any kind of wood that will hold up to the job, but I wouldn't use redwood or cedar. I've made several of them out of 1/2" exterior plywood. Because I use a moist substrate, I then lined the inside with sheet plastic.

Thank you. Do I need to put a waterproofing stain on the wood and will this be harmful to the tortoise? The enclosure will be in my family room so I would like to possibly use a hardwood. Is there anything I should stay away from?

I used a shower curtain for mine, but my Russian has put holes in the corners, just to give you a heads up. I just put a piece of wood in the corner, & when I change the substrate next I will just change it out.

I used garden paper my dad had laying around the house, though I only wrapped the bottom. I think I'm going to be building a new table in the next few weeks, perhaps I'll do a pictorial as I go.
