I continue to build my enclosure and installed a lot of the 48” 6500k led ambient lighting. When i turn on the ambient and arcadia uvb bulbs, there is no visual difference noticeable shining on my basking pads. I also have basking bulbs at each uvb light. The uvb’s are 18” from the basking pads. My question is this. If i turn on the uvb, the ambient uva’s, and NOT the basking bulb, can or do torts seek out the uvb lights?. Or, are the basking bulbs a “magnet” to entice the tort to the heat where the uvb’s are located? I know its recommended to have the uvb’s on only for a set amount of hours. Do i turn the ambient led’s off during uvb lighting hours?

The heat from the basking bulb is what attracts them over to have a good old bask lol, the heat and uvb work hand in hand with one another hence they’re recommended to be as close as possible to each other🐢💚

You can have your ambient leds on a full 12-14hours even when the uvb lights are on yes😊

Tortoises perceive part of UVA spectrum as a fourth "base color", so basking zones are "highlighted" for them. However, when choosing basking areas they are attracted by heat (although, they don't see in infrared and have no special sensory organs for IR) and overall spot brightness. Hence, sometimes it's recommended to add a LED spotlight to the basking area (e.g. Sansi LED grow lights).

Ambient LED should stay on during UVB hours. All three light sources are complementary and form more more natural lightning altogether.
