Turtle Breed?

Can someone identify what breed of turtle/tortoise this is?

My neighbor brought it to me and I don’t want to put it in my aquarium incase it is a tortoise.

From internet pictures I want to say it is a eastern box turtle but it’s shell does not looks exactly the same.

It does look like a box turtle. If this is a wild caught it should be brought back in nature as it will probably never be happy captive and eventually die. If it is not look at the box turtles care sheet. They need a moist substrate and a water area(not too deep).

It's a terrestrial box turtle.
Not a water turtle.
There may be laws in your state about keeping such an animal.
They live in wooded areas. I suggest you place it back where it was found.

I agree with Neal. It's a young eastern box turtle ( Terrapene carolina carolina).
