The news then went on to show the difference between tortoises and turtles by saying that ALL water turtles have "flippers" not feet with toes!
It has not been a good week for our hobby.

It's the thought that counts. Yeah, she messed up and probably killed that poor tortoise. But, she wasn't trying to kill it. She's not an evil person who purposefully kills tortoises. Just an ignorant, well intentioned girl.

sorry I'm going to have to disagree with you the thought doesn't always count doing more harm than good even if good intentions is not good in my opinion. but I guess we can agree to disagree.

How about just put it down next to the water and let the animal decide. If it's a turtle it will probably head there.

I've saved a hundred turtles (maybe exaggerating by one or two ) and never once would I have had the thought to throw it even in my immature years. Just get 5ft from shore set it down nicely and watch it sprint for the water. I think it's fun to watch them run not fly through the air.
