Turtles shed?

I read this somewhere on yahoo answers, "As for the peeling... shedding scute plates (small thin layers of the shell) is perfectly normal." Is this true?

My albino res and southern painted (aquatic turtles) just finished shedding their shell scutes.

The tortoises don't.

My adult 3 toeds would shed thin, see-through perfect "moulds" of their scutes. It was pretty neat.

Yes my EBT's looks like a thin layer of one piece is shedding.
