Oh yeah folks, this IS happening!
We went up a local lake to play! DNR has test drilled several holes in the ice...6 to 8" so I was fine. Kerry stayed closer to the edge.
Sometimes we do things, simply because we can!
Many, many moons ago several of us kids ice skated out of the Magothy River onto the Chesapeake bay. It was frozen completely across. There was no ice-breaker to maintain the channel so the ice was solid. We skated past the halfway-across-point, past Baltimore Buoy until when looking at the bridge, we knew we had reached the halfway point. The tides changed and the ice began to crack in long bowangers(make that sound in a high pitch, its how the ice sounds as it cracks). We got spooked and raced the 45 minutes back to our Cornfield creek.....whew!
Every time I cross the bay bridge, every single time....I look out and see that big buoy and think.."my God we were lucky"
