I’m seeing some new/unusual behavior for Fezzik (adult male Russian I’ve had for two years). I’m hoping this is just seasonal transition stuff. Apart from being way more active inside (very unusual he is a real inactive tortoise even outside in his large enclosure), he is being very active starting around 4 or 5 am while it is dark. I’ve never seen him do that before. He is walking around everywhere even though it is very dark.

This is the time of year where he gets to spend around 3 to 6 hours outside a day when it’s warm enough but he’s not outside full-time yet. I assume the restlessness is he wants to be outside but I don’t remember him doing this last year. he also isn’t making full use of his indoor enclosure for walking around. He’s only walking around about half of it, though it is the warmer half.

Other than his basking area, the enclosure temperatures range from 60s and 70s at night to 70s and 80s during the day (and 90s in the “basking adjacent” area. one section of his enclosure, the one he doesn’t tend to use, stays in the 60s and 70s.) the temps when he’s walking around in the dark are low to mid 60s.

He started around 5.15 am today:
