Tom was over this morning and had an up close and personal visit with my clan...with Ava (she's so cute) and Bullet (maybe my favorite dog ever) in tow!

It was his determination that Snowflake's condition is due to probable lack of ANY water as a hatchling. I know the breeder doesn't (or didn't) provide water in his vision cages...nor did he spray or soak. Tom did not rule out the possibility of Post Traumatic Shock...from a probable rat bite...but likely attributes her lack of growth to early dehydration.

He went on to point out that Daisy didn't show any significant growth her first couple years...Snowflake is now 15 months...and 2 5/8 inches.

Neither one of us thinks she's out of the woods entirely, but her spirit pushes her forward...

Her she is enjoying a dandelion just prior to Tom's arrival.

She's awful cute. I truly hope she makes it. What a beautiful adult she'll make.

I have a friend who has a 1 year 2 month old hatchling sized sulcata. His growth may be stunted too.

He kept him dry his first year until I started giving him advice. It LOOKS like he could be growing...but It's too early to tell really.

Well, in any case, she is a cutie, do you think it could be genetics?

Not likely! This guy has huge tortoises...and Eggroll is Snowflake's sister (same clutch) and she's 3.5 inches!

Dean's a great guy and his family is sooo nice. Thanks for the visit Dean.

This is by no means conclusive, but every time I've seen one of those little ones that just doesn't seem to grow much, you find out they were housed totally dry in their first few weeks. Usually on rabbit pellets or something similar, but in this case newspaper. Since MOST breeders are still doing this to this day, it could just be coincidence, but I've yet to see an exception.

I WONDER if it could be something like the Rolof's. The have 3 regular sized children and 1 dwarf. Could it be something like that, where it is in the genes? Just a question! :D
