My RT accidently chewed and ate a little piece of a styrofoam plate. Its 3 very small bites and no more. He has pooped okay since but should I be worried?

I wouldn't worry, while not a good diet choice, a little should pass through just fine, keep him hydrated and switch from styrofoam plates if that is what you feed him on.

I suggest you use a small, flat brick to feed him on. I have also used a piece of tile to feed my sulcatas on. The roughness of the tile or brick keeps the tortoises' beak trimmed, and they cant eat it either :D.

That is a very good suggestion. You can buy individual tiles (get one that is rougher) at Home supply stores.

Thanks Lynne, I got the idea while looking at this $30 feeding bowl on the Internet. It had a rough, sandpaper-like bottom. I had a couple tiles that had a rough surface, so I used them to feed my tortoises. Now they all have trimmed brakes :D

Oh , I also use a brick sometimes. But only for my sulcatas because they are bigger and taller. But most of the time I use tile

I agree with Lynn, go to your local home improvement store and pick up a small tile, brick, or piece of slate and use that as your dish.

This one time may be harmless, but I would watch his stools just to make sure he passed it. Of course, don't let him repeat this in the future, because if enough of these get into his gut - or if they're big enough - they could cause dangerous gut impaction.
