I bought my new little baby horsfield a 3ft vivarium to live in. He seems happy enough but likes to burrow in the corners. Is this cruel and means he needs to get out more? He is tiny at the moment and I presumed too small for the garden? Is this normal? Thanks x xImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1442866267.651028.jpg

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

Russian tortoises always bury themselves. Especially baby tortoises because they are prey and have to stay hidden to not be eaten. But adult Russian tortoises bury themselves too. Has nothing to do with being mean or not being mean to your tortoise

Hello and welcome. I prefer to have a properly set up indoor enclosure that is good 24/7 and then also have a safe, well designed outdoor enclosure that I can use during fair weather. With the right set up, they are never to young to go outside.

These might help:

There is nothing wrong with glass tank or vivariums. I and many others have been using them for decades without issue. In fact they actually make it easier to provide your baby with the correct conditions.
