Weed safe to eat

Trying to figure out if these are safe - cannot figure out what they are in the tort's area. They're ready to go outside now and one started eating on this plant. I stopped him. I'm in Northern CA. Checked all websites on weeds and nothing matches. Has some purple running through them

The second one looks like thistle to me

Yes, both are fine to feed.

It's prickly lettuce, and is edible.
