I couldn't figure out how to reply with pictures so I'm just doing a new thread. So here are the pictures of the weeds in my backyard. I have no idea what they are. If anyone knows and knows if they are safe please let me know. Right now he's not even by the weeds he's in the dirt walking around trying to get though the brick. How long should I have him out here.

i have a substantially larger one and we let him eat as he pleases. His favorite are the multiple types of weeds and vines growing in our florida backyard.

If you have an outdoor enclosure and its warm enough, you can keep him out all day. Just make sure there is shade for him.. If you are just keeping him out for a short period each day or warm days, then 30 minutes, but hour better. Can help ID the weeds. You can try the tortoisetable.org and see if you can find a picture of them on there. Otherwise, lot of members believe they won't eat what isn't edible. Cute little one btw.

In the first pic I can see mallow and one other weed that I don't know the name of. Both of those are fine foods, but there may be other things mixed in that are not.

In most cases, in a situation like this where they have lots of good food available and can fill up on that, they won't eat plants that they shouldn't. But if he grazes down all the good stuff, or it dies off in spring and summer like mine do here, then a hungry sulcata might start eating the wrong stuff.

To ID your weeds we need clear pics of each individual plant. If you need more help, or if we can't tell you what they are, take a sample to a local nursery and ask for help there. Most places have a resident native weed expert or two that can help you out. Come back here when you know what it is, and we can tell you toxic or not, or refer you to sites that can.

By the way. Is your sulcata in an enclosure that he cannot escape from? The whole back yard is fine IF you've made the whole backyard a safe, escape proof enclosure.

They are all same weed in the pictures just different views. I will see if I can take a better pic tomorrow. As far as enclosure I don't have anything g outside ready for him yet, however I am sitting outside with him and watching him. I don't feel comfortable leaving him alone outside so I make sure I am out there at all times.
