Hello, This is my first post on here :)
I have two just under one year old Horsefields.
I weigh them regularly and up until now they have been gaining steadily.

One of them this month has lost 3g. She is eating as normal, very alert, active and seems happy enough.

Its been exceedingly hot here for the past month as I am sure a lot of you know (UK ppl). They have been out on the lawn basking in sunshine and walking about. This one particular tortoise has been very active wondering about enjoying herself. Is it possible the heat and the extra exercise has caused this weight loss.

She is eating as much as she normally does. Just wondering if anyone else has had this. Because this is the first time one of them has lost a lil weight obviously I am concerned as to what could have caused it.

Thanks in advance

Hi! It's possible that she lost weight with the exercise. More likely however is that you caught her at a moment of less water in the body or just after eliminating one or both types of waste mater from her body. Do you always weigh at the same time, like right after a 20 min soak or at random times? Was this loss only from one weighing or have you taken another one the next day and still had the loss?

Hello, I weigh them quite randomly really and tbh she probably had already been poo and wee today.

She is eating v well indeed and is loving the summer and being able to be out and about.

I think its because its the first time either of them has lost weight that I am worried.

Maybe I should try weighing her again tomorrow in the morning befor she has pooped and wee weed just to test your theory out.

I just freaked when I saw 3g less.

Thanks

I can understand your freaking and it's very normal. :) If she was not active, eating well, and just plain being her normal self I would say you have reason to worry. As it is just watch her, but for now, I would not worry.

I have weighed her again today and panic over she is the same as she was a few weeks ago. She must have been for a wee or poo prior to me weighing her yesterday.

After looking back in my notes I normally weigh in the morning, yesterday I weighed them in the afternoon so that could be the answer.

The only thing I notice is she has a slightly runny stool. Still eating very well today and very active. So I am a little calmer.

Thanks for your help Jacqui
